In 1999 she founded Innocence in Danger, Worldwide Movement for Protection of Children against all forms of sexual abuse. Since then she has been dedicating all her time and energy to it with the following central credo : childhood must remain one of the most beautiful parts of life. She believes that she was fortunate enough to be able to reach out, as she was loved as a child. She would like to transmit this joy that she was given to children who are victims of sexual mistreatment.
The creation of the association was the result of a terrible observation she made: in France, abused children and their families are made to suffer through major ordeals. Childhood and its protection have never been considered a priority for French political leaders. For Homayra this is shameful! Furthermore, France has been repeatedly criticized by the international community. Unfortunately, politicians’ lack of interest in this issue, at its root, is the result of the indifference and inertia of the French people themselves on the question.
The aim of the Innocence in Danger association is to raise awareness and mobilize public opinion and political leaders to change this situation. On a daily basis, their work involves responding to the legal, medical and psychological needs of victims of sexual abuse. They have also, and perhaps more importantly, established programs to help children embark upon the process of rebuilding themselves.
Homayra is also the co-author of the book ”Enquête sur une société qui consomme des enfants” (“Survey on a society that consumes children”)
